Software engineering is a systematic and disciplined approach to developing software. Waterloo courses will not only include a solid foundation in math, engineering, and computer science, but will also cover the software development process, project management, and technical documentation. Waterloo's co-op program gives students an edge in the software industry after graduation. They will graduate with 2 years of paid co-op work experience and earn money to finance their education. Most Software Engineering students work at leading software design firms even before they graduate. The program, which combines Waterloo's internationally-recognized strengths in Computer Science and Computer Engineering, is accredited by the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board and the Computer Science Accreditation Council, giving students access to careers in both areas.

  For direct admission, applicant must be from an English speaking country or meet either of the following English test scores:

  • Min TOEFL iBT: 90 (Min Speaking: 25.0, Min Writing: 25.0)

  • Min IELTS overall: 6.5 (Min Listening: 6.0, Min Reading: 6.0, Min Speaking: 6.5, Min Writing: 6.5)

  • Min Duolingo English Test Score: 120

  • Min PTE overall: 63 (Min Speaking: 65, Min Writing: 65)

  For conditional admission, you are required to provide English proficiency scores:

  • Min TOEFL iBT: 64

  • Min IELTS overall: 5.5 (Min Writing: 5)

  • Min PTE overall: 46
