Materials Engineers play a key role in reducing environmental impact through recycling, redesigning processes to reduce waste, and developing high-performance materials for new energy technologies and medical applications. The Master of Engineering (Materials) delivers expert skills and applied competencies to professional engineers seeking to work in a wide spectrum of industries and activities such as energy generation, transportation, manufacturing, mining, medicine etc.

This degree is designed to train and enhance professional practice, advance technical and specialist skills, and provide an opportunity to put theory into practice with applied projects and research. The degree also delivers communication, strategic and project management skills essential to the practising engineer.

Students will complete the core subjects in Professional Communications and Engineering Workplace Practice, Engineering Computing, Project Management, Innovation & Design, and Research Methods.

For the Materials major students will study subjects in Metallic Materials, Recent Developments in Materials, Corrosion, Wear and Fatigue, Selection and Design of Materials, and Strategic Management.

Admission Requirements

  • Minimum Level of Education Required: 4-Year Bachelor's Degree
  • Min GPA: 60.0% 
  • English Proficiency Requirements:
    For direct admission, applicant must be from an English speaking country or meet either of the following English test scores:
    • Min TOEFL iBT: 86 (Min Listening: 17.0, Min Reading: 18.0, Min Speaking: 17.0, Min Writing: 18.0)
    • Min IELTS overall: 6.5 (Min Listening: 6.0, Min Reading: 6.0, Min Speaking: 6.0, Min Writing: 6.0)
    • Min Duolingo English Test Score: 115
    • Min PTE overall: 62 (Min Listening: 54, Min Reading: 54, Min Speaking: 54, Min Writing: 54)
    For conditional admission, you are required to provide English proficiency scores:
    • Min TOEFL iBT: 32
    • Min IELTS overall: 4.5 (Min Reading: 4, Min Writing: 4)
    • Min Duolingo English Test Score: 65
